Specialist Repairs & Keywork modifications
1.Pearl
replacements.
To replace the old pearl & pearl holder with new- therefore improving the feel of the instrument.
2.Hinge rod replacements.
To replace the hinge rods - left-hand & right-hand, palm keys & auxiliaries eliminating keywork wear & improving the performance of the instrument.
3.Spring undersizing.
To remove wrongly fitted springs from worn spring holes, then remove wear from spring holes & fit correct size springs, this vastly improves the feel of the keywork & reduces premature wear.
4.Reprofiling keywork.
To repair worn away brass touch pieces, make new touch pieces or simply reposition touch pieces & keywork to players requirements.
5.Octave pipe customising.
This is a very common repair to vintage & new instruments, the shape of the octave pipe and the size of the hole very much alters the behaviour of the instrument.
6.Keywork barrel replacement
This is usually the last resort. If the other repairs don't work, this definitely will.
This procedure means rebuilding the keywork
These are some of the repairs I specialise in - I hear people say things like 'rattley old mk6's they sound like a sewing machine' - but if you like the sound of your instrument then it doesn't matter how worn the keywork is, it can be brought back to a very quiet & tight instrument
